Sylvia Berryman[Purkiss] 1972 - 1976

How I joined

I was 17 when I started at Radio Hillingdon as a request collector after being approached by Steve Jones in the EMI Canteen.

What I did

It wasn't long before I was persuaded to go ON AIR. A scary business but I loved it. My show had the theme tune SYLVIA by FOCUS.

I can remember doing a float at Hayes Carnival for RH on at least two occasions in 1973 and 1974.

I met Graham Purkiss at EMI and RH provided the disco when we got engaged in 1976. I lost contact with RH when we got married and moved out of the area.

Where Am I now?

I have been married for 25 years and live in Flitwick, Beds, where I work part time in a China Shop.

I have 2 kids - Debbie 22 and Andy 19. Debbie is a Beauty Therapist at Henlow Grange and Andy works in a bar at the local college - I think he is resting after doing very well at his A Levels!

Graham has worked for Hewlett Packard for 28 years and would love to take early retirement. He sells Packaged Services to resellers.

Best wishes
Sylvia
